EPPING FOREST BECOMES "THE PEOPLE'S FOREST" - 6TH MAY 1882
Our 2nd- year-students did their presentations on the Tudor monarchs during the second term, and today's entry evokes the hunting grounds of English kings and queens.
On 6th May 1882, Queen Victoria dedicated Epping Forest to the use and enjoyment of my people for all time, so from then on Epping Forest was known as The People's Forest.
The Great Standing Building, known as Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge was built by order of Henry VIII. You can visit it and become familiar with Tudor customs.
