22nd November Thanksgiving Day
On the fourth Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day. Families in the USA gather around the table to eat turkey, as we often see in films. Why is it so?
Well, in November 1620, The Pilgrims, a group of 102 religious people --known as The Puritans-- who wanted to practice their religion freely, sailed on the Mayflower, from Plymouth, England.
They reached Cape Cod, and started exploring the coast. They would eventually settle down in Plymouth, America, and celebrate the first Thanksgiving in November 1621, inviting the Wampanoag chief Massasoit and his people to share their first corn crop harvest.
At Institut Bernat Metge we are working on this topic with our 2nd years of ESO: Some students will illustrate the topic with their drawings and cartoons!
